Restaurant Spotlight: Adam’s Taphouse & Grille

Restaurant Spotlight: Adam’s Taphouse & Grille

589 Baltimore Annapolis Blvd, Severna Park, MD 21146 |

We had the pleasure of speaking with Adam’s General Manager Tim Daugherty about what makes the restaurant different, how they’re involved in the community, and what’s next for Adam’s.

What makes Adam’s unique?

We’ve been in the community for over 30 years now, so we’ve been the go to place for families for a long time. I know kids that came here as youngsters with their families, and now they’re coming here and working for me. And, I also know people who have been working for me a long time who are now bringing their kids here.

Adam’s has always been the go-to place of Severna Park. That’s the one thing that’s always been unique about us. We’ve always been very consistent, and that makes people love coming here. At Adam’s, we’re truly a community that brings people together.

How do you involve yourself within the community?

We do a lot in the community. One of the ways we help is by making donations to the local schools. In fact, we did a very big donation to the high school to help out with the new scoreboard when they did the rebuild.

Also, we do a lot of charitable donations with gift cards to different events in the area from charity golf tournaments to local fundraisers to the fire hall. We really try to do as much as we can in the community.

What do you love most about your role?

I’ve always loved to cook, that’s just who I am. I’ve tried to do several things over the years, but I always come back to cooking.

Plus, I enjoy the challenges of working in a restaurant. The day-to-day is always different, you know? It’s never the same grind that you get into with most of the 9 to 5 jobs out there. I’m never just sitting in one place. I’m always faced with a new challenge that I’ve got to fix every day.

And that’s the one thing that keeps me coming back. I’m always trying to keep things fresh and keep things interesting.

Are there any other creative ways you’re promoting Adam’s?

Actually, most of our publicity comes through word-of-mouth. It’s new people moving into the community and asking their neighbors or their friends, “Hey, where’s a good place to go eat?” And it’s always the first word out of their mouths to go to Adam’s.

I personally moved into the area about five, six years ago, and it was funny when people started finding out what I did and where I worked. They were like, “Oh we love going to Adam’s! It’s where we tell everybody to go!”

So it’s always been a word-of-mouth thing for us. We don’t do a ton of publicity or advertising. It’s always been our customers who are our biggest spokesmen.

What’s next for Adam’s?

For this location, it’s always about trying to keep things fresh and keep things new. We’re always trying to stay up with the times which is why we started doing our Fab Five menus. A lot of people nowadays are looking for what’s fresh, what’s seasonal, and what’s local. And that’s the way we’re going.

We’re using of a simple menu of five items we run for lunch and dinner Monday through Friday that we change seasonally. It allows us to test out new menu items and to see what our customers are looking for. It’s been a great success for us, and they’re some of our more popular items.

We have a large base of customers that come in here daily for dinner or lunch, and it’s a way to give them something different. I know a lot of them do end up ordering the same things over and over and over again, but we wanted to be able to give them something different. Something new, unique, and something that changes because we do tend to run the same specials.

This is a way for us to try and help our customers realize we’re more than just ribs, chicken, and barbeque. There’s a lot more we can do. And that’s the same thing I tell our customers when they call in for catering.

To that point, one thing people don’t realize is that we do cater a lot of weddings. We do several weddings throughout the year, and it’s always been a little known secret. We have great crab cakes, we can do prime rib, and we can do all of the fancier things that people think about when it comes to weddings. It’s just a matter of trying to get that out to people.
